• TheNikka Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Wood Finish Single Malt Japanese Whiskyis a limited-edition expression from 2020 that celebrates the 100th wedding anniversary of Nikka’s founders and features a distinct apple brandy finish. This limited-edition whisky is known for a harmonious balance of delicate, fruity, and floral notes, characteristic of the Miyagikyo distillery style, with the added sweetness and aroma of apple brandy casks. Tasting Notes Nose: Floral with prominent notes of fresh apples, juicy pears, honey, vanilla, and a touch of pepper or cinnamon. Subtle cereal, leather, and even a faint balsamic vinegar note can appear, adding to its complexity. Palate: The initial taste is elegant, silky, and creamy, with flavors of orchard fruits, apple pie, caramel, and vanilla. A light, balanced peatiness and a subtle hint of cinnamon or ginger spices are also apparent. Finish: The finish is medium to long, sweet, smooth, and lingering, with continuing notes of white fruits, toasted bread, a hint of licorice, and well-balanced vanilla notes at the end. The whisky was initially aged in ex-sherry casks before being finished in Nikka’s apple brandy casks for approximately six months. This was a tribute to the founders, Masataka Taketsuru and his wife Rita, as the production of apple products helped sustain the early business.
